Date Palm
A large number of utilitarian and decorative products can be made by drying and interweaving the Date Palm leaves.
Palm leaf was also used in ancient India to preserve the written texts for the succeeding generation. The ancient art innovators also devised an art from that used palm leaves for etching and painting.
The huge Palm leaves are harvested from a Palm Tree. These leaves are dry in the sun for 2 to 3 days after being collected. Each leaf is then divided into three or four leaves using a splitting tool, which is normally a sharp knife on a wooden stand. These leaves are then coloured depending on the pattern and other specifications. Following the dyeing process, the leaves are sun-dried once more before being used to make the desired goods. Palm leaves are commonly used to make containers, boxes, trays, stationary objects, and assorted items such as laundry bins, purses, coasters, rattles, toy boxes etc.
